Peaceful rest in the holler
What a delight! William’s property is stunningly beautiful, a welcome respite for road weary travelers. The fireflies lulled me to sleep and my dogs loved sniffing around and exploring the peaceful woods during our stay. The handcrafted cedar outhouse might be the most beautiful toilet I have ever had the pleasure of using. We finished our stay with a lovely hike on trails circumnavigating the property. Highly recommend.

My son and I arrived and were greeted by William at our vehicle. He was very hospitable and gave us the details of the site and suggestions of where to roam on his 110 acre property. We met his two dogs, Rocket and Hush Puppie (could not recall the other dog’s name) We hiked up to the tree house and got ourselves acquainted with the sleeping quarters, which were very comfortable. Then we set out to explore around 6pm. William had described a series of caves across from the pull off and where there was a metal ladder set up to climb over a small fence. We hiked up about 30-50 yards and found the entrance to a large cave system that we climbed and walked through and were amazed by the natural structure. It was about 75 degrees outside, and was about 20 degrees cooler inside the caves. After about 45 minutes of exploring the caves were found an access to the creek and waded in the creek at sunset to rinse ourselves off and to cool down. We walked back to the campsite and made a fire and talked amongst the nature of beautiful towering trees. There was a magnetic screen in the doorway that kept mosquitos outside and allowed the breeze to enter the sleep structure. In the morning we met William’s wife Sharon who gave us so e fresh grown cucumbers. William showed us his sculpture workshop which contained amazing limestone ground statues, various wood carvings and other art. Very impressive. We were impressed by this Hipcamp and plan to return again in the future.

Big Beech Campsite
This was our first time using HipCamp and it was everything we could have wanted and more!! The directions were explained perfectly and we got to follow the cutest creek all the way to our site! William was extremely hospitable and gave us a tour of his lovely land! He showed us to his thriving garden, roaming chickens, friendly/feisty goats, absolutely marvelous sculpting studio, and most importantly his dogs, Rocket and Ren. It was the perfect place to disconnect from our regular lives and listen to the beautiful sounds of nature. We would 100% return here for another camping trip!!

Safe Sanctuary
This is one of my absolute favorite hipcamp places to stay. William is genuine, warm and welcoming. The cabin is private, peaceful, clean, safe (big deal for solo travelers) and beautiful. The property is magical. Wood is provided for a fire at no additional charge… always a plus. I sipped coffee on the deck, took a siesta in the hammock, watched the fire flies light up under the trees as I sat by the fire in the evening, hiked the mile and a half trail (Rocket the pup keeping me company for part of the trek) and simply found a moment to be slow and quietly soothed by Mother Nature. A sacred space I will return to! I still need to see the studio! Namaste 🕉️

Big Beech Campsite
We stayed in the cabin which is in a wonderful spot. It is private and built amidst towering trees up high. The cabin itself is cozy and the furnishings are thoughtful. William is very pleasant and accommodating. I brought my dog who was befriended by one of his dogs (Rocket) and they were great company together. Wonderful wooded getaway.

A magical place tucked away in the hills of Tennessee. What a fantastic way to spend a long weekend. William was such a great host and we can’t wait to make plans for our second visit.
